The roots of the technology underlying the development of Peptisyntha goes back to a research program taking place at the University of Ghent, Belgium in the early eighties, and further developed in cooperation with Solvay.
Peptisyntha was founded in 1987 in Brussels, Belgium, on the site of the main research center of Solvay. Based on a proprietary technology and an extensive know how, Peptisyntha has become one of the leading specialists in peptide synthesis, with the proven ability to scale up the production of peptide APIs up to hundreds of kilograms per year.
The technological expertise of Peptisyntha was further enlarged in 2001 through the incorporation of Peptisyntha Inc. in Torrance, California, with scientists having decades of experience in the field of SPPS (Solid Phase Peptide Synthesis).
With the combined expertise in solution phase synthesis and solid phase synthesis, together with a comprehensive know how in purification techniques, Peptisyntha offers a full range of options for the production of peptides, from the delivery of a few grams up to the production of hundreds of kilograms under fully GMP compliant conditions.
The expertise of Peptisyntha is best illustrated by the development of the manufacturing process for the well known eptifibatide, a cyclic heptapeptide with a disulfide bridge, as a result of a long term cooperation with Millennium Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (as successor to Cor Therapeutics, Inc). Eptifibatide is the active ingredient of Integrilin® (eptifibatide for injection), a leading cardiovascular drug used in hospital settings. Peptisyntha has successfully scaled up the manufacturing process under fully GMP compliant conditions. The process is now being used to produce commercial quantities of bulk eptifibatide well in excess of 100 kg per year.
